“Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them…” – Jeremiah 29:5
When Love A Child acquired the land that is now Love A Child Village, where the Children’s Home and the Clinics, School, and Church are, it was a dry and dusty, arid tangled mass of non-productive thorn trees and scrub brush. But now, after years of healing the land with our sustainable agro-forestry and syntropic farming practices, we have expanded the productive area of our many gardens until we are almost self-sufficient for all of our vegetables.
Yesterday, Wilner and his team of ATC workers transplanted hundreds of new broccoli starts into the prepared gardens, and soon everyone “will eat the fruit of them.” By following the principles of “gardening God’s way” (basically agro-forestry) Wilner has reclaimed the once barren, dry land into large productive gardens with rich and renewed soil that continuously yields a large harvest of vegetables year-round. The broccoli transplants were started from seeds donated to us by Hope Seeds International. We are proud to be one of Hope Seeds’ “Seed Depots” distributing thousands of seed packs and their Gospel message of Hope (Mesaje Lespwa) to many gardeners, farmers, and community projects around Haiti. The tender transplants were started in the great shade houses donated to us and erected by Joe Perkins and his dedicated team at Sustainable Food Development. Without the shade houses, the seeds from Hope Seeds, the hard work of Wilner and his team, the monthly support from our wonderful “Sustainability Outreach” donors, and God’s Grace, we could not have the bountiful harvests of nutritious food from our gardens. Together, we are growing gardens, and growing the Kingdom of God in Haiti.
