God Still Has Big Plans For Mackenson

It’s hard to believe that this “nice-looking young teenager,” Mackenson, is now 13! How time flies! It was “just yesterday” that he was brought to our Mobile Clinic in Covant, far in the mountains of Haiti. His father had carried him a long way, and I knew as soon as I looked at him that without a miracle, he would not make the trip back home…

He had severe “Kwashiorkor Malnutrition.” This is the kind that makes a baby “look fat,” so the parents love that! They think they have a fat baby…but their baby is dying. His skin is peeling off. His kidneys are shutting down. He has a “moon-shaped” face but thin arms and swollen feet. He is just a “bag of water outside of those bones!”

Thinking he was two, I picked him up and noticed how “heavy” he was… “How old is he?” I asked his father. “Seven,” he replied! Mackenson was doing well, but about three years ago, he had “a stroke” in school. This left him paralyzed on one side. He has been through lots of therapy, and he can use his hand and arm, on that side, a little…but drags his foot. He cannot play soccer but tries to play basketball. He loves to help the orphanage moms clean-up! He helps the rest of the children “on trash patrol!”

He is quiet but very intelligent…He wants to be a “Spanish teacher!” Mackenson has come a long way, and God still has big plans for his life!!!
We love Mackenson so much!! He is growing “too fast” for me!
