God’s “ATM”: “Authorization from The Master!”

I grew up in a small country town in the woods of Pennsylvania. There was a little creek on the side of our house. Beyond the creek were the woods. When bad weather came, it would knock down some heavy trees. One of those heavy trees became “my log,” where I could sit and “talk to Jesus.” I wasn’t yet in school, but the Lord and I had a personal relationship.

Our little country church had a wonderful pastor. He knew that “the Barner children” had a father who drank and couldn’t hold on to a job. My eyes fill with tears now, as I remember this sweet country pastor (Pastor Ray Kaufman), who always had some “food in a bag” (pancake mix, etc.), or a little money, for my mom to feed her kids.

Through the years, it was hard for my father to keep his job, due to drinking… But one day, he agreed to come to church. The pastor knew that my father did not have “church clothes,” but he told my dad, “Sam, don’t worry about church clothes. Our deacons and I will be wearing jeans!” And when we came to church, all the deacons were wearing g blue jeans! God had always provided for “the Barner family.” It was always a miracle… some neighbors would butcher a cow and send us meat! We never went hungry.

As the years went by, I realized that God had His own “ATM.” I call it “Authorization from The Master.” The Lord Jesus Christ, who watches over us, loves us, and always meets our needs!! God has given us wonderful friends and partners, like you, who have always loved the poor and who will always be blessed through Psalms 41:1-3. Have a great Sunday and be blessed!
