“Grangou Clorox”

Hunger is still a major problem here in Haiti. Poor people call hunger “grangou Clorox.” Which means, “I would rather die from drinking Clorox than die of hunger.”

Salt is often added to boiling water when there is no food to put into the pot. Children even eat “tree bark,” “weeds” or anything else they can find to put in their stomachs. Many times, there are “mud cookies” for sale. If a child eats a mud cookie and then drinks water, he has the “feeling” of being full.

No child should go to sleep tonight on an empty stomach. Thank you, partners, for your prayers and sacrifices to feed Haiti’s children! God bless you. Bobby and Sherry
