Haiti is in a Crisis: 1-29-19 4:05 PM

Haiti is in a Crisis: When Sherry and I first started coming to Haiti, and for many years after that, one American Dollar would equal one Haitian Gourde. Today, it takes 81 gourdes to equal just one American dollar — that is a catastrophic devaluation of Haiti’s local currency in just one month. This crisis means that every day, Haiti’s money is losing its value and when it loses its value, it buys less food for families who sometimes only eat one meal a day. The price of food has gone way up, out of reach for so many. (Including so many other things.) Most Haitians live day-to-day; they go to the open-air markets every day and buy a little salt, oil, or charcoal to cook on, maybe even some cornmeal or rice to cook one daily meal. But, as their money loses value, the amount of food purchased in the open-air markets is less, and that means the littlest of the children, who cannot get their hand in the food pot, will go to bed hungry! We are really praying for the Haitian people. They face great hardships with the devaluation of Haiti’s gourde. We don’t see how the poor Haitians can make it through each day. I’m so thankful the Lord has laid a burden upon our hearts together for the Haitian people. They are very precious, especially the children. Bobby and Sherry
