As of this month, so far, there have been 45 babies born in our new Birthing Center. We love this project for poor mothers who have no clean place to give birth.

Many mothers have been coming from the mountains and some from far away places. Our Birthing Center is beautiful, clean, and very happy! Christian music is played and the mid-wives (called saj fams) are the best in Haiti! Our Birthing Center is open 24/7 and that means “we never close.” We must have a full-time staff of cleaners, ambulance drivers, midwives, lab techs, etc.

We also have a small house built behind the Birthing Center, for families who come from far distances. There are “rocking chairs” on the porch so that “nervous fathers and relatives’ can wait comfortably. After giving birth, the new moms go to a “recovery room.” They can stay there until they are well enough to travel, but in Haiti, most of the mothers “leave soon after birth” to go home, due to their children.
