Harvesting Skills for Generations to Come

Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Training is a very valuable thing, and as Proverbs 22:6 tells us, we should take opportunities to train the children of our communities. The Bible further tells us that if you don’t work, you won’t eat. Bobby and Sherry teach the children in the orphan’s home to always work with your heart unto the Lord.

Each of the children has assigned chores around the house and grounds each day. In addition, some of the kids also want to learn about gardening, so they follow Wilner, Director of the Agricultural Training Center (ATC), eagerly participating in the gardens under his capable instruction.

Here, you see some of the orphan kids working with Wilner and the ATC staff to learn gardening. . . from the ground up. They are learning ways to lay out new garden plots, improve the soil with compost and mulch for better yields, and planting, tending, and harvesting fresh, nutritious crops.

These lessons will be with them for the rest of their lives and hopefully will be passed on to future generations. Generations of Haitians will benefit by knowing these good skills for self-reliance that will allow them to provide food for their families. Through their work, they will be able to eat. Thank you to all our donors who support the “sustainability” outreaches that enable the ATC to teach and demonstrate valuable life skills.
