“He that winneth souls is wise…” – Proverbs 11:30

“He that winneth souls is wise…” – Proverbs 11:30

“Soul-winning” is becoming harder than before. People don’t want you to “stop them and talk about Jesus.” It takes “more wisdom,” nowadays, to win a soul to Jesus. There are too many “attractions” to steal someone’s time from Church, so that you could talk about Jesus.

The “world,” the television, and everything else, tries to “steal your time to witness about Jesus.” That’s why God gave us this verse: “He that winneth souls is wise…” – Proverbs 11:30

There were five children in the “Barner family.” My father and mother were poor. It was all my dad could do to put a little “food on the table.” We grew up in the country, in Pennsylvania. My mother would load up the kids, and she would take us to Church.

Our Pastor, Ray Koffman, tried so hard to get my father to come to Church. Dad always had an excuse… Pastor Koffman knew there was very little food at our house. After Church, he would always “slip my mother a small bag of food” or pancake mix, or even money. One weekend, near Christmas, the Pastor came out to our house again. He said, “Sam, please come to Church. I have asked you many times, and you always have an excuse. I know you said you don’t have ‘Church clothes,’ but if you will come to Church tomorrow, all our Deacons will be wearing overalls!” My father laughed a little. He did not really think that the Deacons would come to Church wearing OVERALLS!

That Sunday, my Dad decided to go to Church. When he opened the door, all the Deacons were smiling, laughing, and shaking hands with my Dad! That one small “act of kindness” touched my father’s heart. He gave his heart to the Lord.

It takes wisdom and love to win someone to the Lord, and “He that winneth souls is wise.” – Proverbs 11:30

God bless you, and “don’t give up on that soul.”
