Today, the Petit-Goâve prison is undergoing a quiet revolution. Love A Child has committed to providing daily meals, a lifeline that has restored health and dignity to those behind bars. Nine dedicated individuals now work within the prison, preparing food to nourish 657 bodies and, in doing so, rekindling hope. The impact is undeniable: where once prisoners were “dying in piles,” as one account described, now there is sustenance, stability, and a reason to believe in tomorrow.
The reach of this compassion extends beyond Petit-Goâve. Word has spread that this prison offers not just confinement but care. As a result, other regions have sent their prisoners here—43 from Carrefour in Port-au-Prince, 13 from Les Cayes, 45 from Miragoâne, and 19 from Jacmel. They come not just for justice but for the promise of a meal, a small act that carries profound weight in a place where so little is guaranteed.
But Love A Child’s mission goes deeper than filling empty stomachs. In the south of Haiti, the team brings not only food but also faith. They share the Word of God, offering spiritual nourishment to those who have often lost all sense of purpose. The response has been nothing short of miraculous: countless prisoners, once hardened by their circumstances, have chosen to surrender their lives to God, finding peace in a place of chaos.
The story of Petit-Goâve prison is not just about survival—it’s about redemption. It’s about a man like Dony Aliote, waiting for justice but finding hope. It’s about 27 sick prisoners, isolated yet cared for. It’s about 657 individuals who, thanks to the tireless efforts of Love A Child, are reminded that they are seen, valued, and loved.
In a world that often overlooks the forgotten, the work being done in Petit-Goâve shines as a beacon of hope. It’s a call to action for all of us—to see the humanity in those behind bars, to offer compassion where there is suffering, and to believe that even in the darkest places, light can break through.
For the prisoners of Petit-Goâve, that light is Love A Child, and through their efforts, lives are being transformed, one meal, one prayer, one heart at a time.
Thank you, Hubert, and your team! Thank you to everyone for your support of Love A Child.
Love is something you do!
