It was years ago when we had conducted a remote Mobile Medical Clinic in the village of Savaan Pit, Haiti!!
People were coming from all over the mountains!!
We finally had a little break and some of us were sitting around, talking. We looked up to see a young Haitian man walking with a little boy, “who had the biggest stomach we had ever seen.” Just one look said “Kwashiorkor Malnutrition.” This is the most dangerous type of malnutrition due to fluid buildup! That “huge, huge belly” meant “death,” unless he could get health!
That began the long process of getting him down the mountain and to a Haitian doctor who was a specialist and did dialysis. (At that time, we did not have the wonderful doctors we have now, but we were soon to find how difficult it would be to find a specialist here in Haiti who could really understand this great problem.)
That’s when Jesse Ostrander agreed to find a Doctor and some Nutritionists in the D.R. to care for Jackson.
Jackson is still under the care of several specialists in the Dominican Republic.
We want to thank Jackson’s donors, who have been paying for his medical care, everything!! We hope and pray that he can come home to Haiti soon!
