It is hard to believe that Jackson is now 17. He is short due to his health condition and severe kidney problems. He has to be on dialysis “every night” and has to have a nurse with him.
“Kwashiorkor malnutrition” (children with the huge, protruding belly) is more life-threatening than the “skinny, bony babies” you have seen on our programs.
Jackson is “very intelligent,” loves school, and “devours” knowledge. We first found Jackson during a Mobile Medical Clinic in the mountains. He walked up to us with his uncle. He said, “I’m sick. I want to go home with you.” We were not prepared for the severity of this child. I said, “Jackson, we have to make plans for you first. We will come back for you.” He started crying and said, “I want to go with you.”
When we left the mountains, Jackson left with us. Our Haitian doctors were not prepared for this. They had no dialysis machine nor the medicines to care for him. That’s when we decided to take him to the Dominican Republic. They put him on a special diet and changed his medicines.
But, since there are now many gangs in Haiti, who have been in the Dominican Republic, they have expelled all Haitians “that they could find.”
Jackson is now in our care. We are praying and believing for him to receive a kidney transplant. Please keep him in your prayers. We love you and we thank God for sending us “His Best!” That’s you!
Love and prayers.
