Jackson… “A Solitary Life…”

Jackson was found during one of our Mobile Medical Clinics in the mountains. He had a HUGE belly, which was full of fluid due to his Kwashiorkor Malnutrition. He was having kidney failure!

When we took him home to our Orphanage, the realization of his needs really hit us. His kidneys were failing rapidly. There was only one known dialysis machine in Haiti, far from us and through gang territory. So, we made the decision to take him to the Dominican Republic for treatment. He did much better, but now, he is back in Haiti, with the border to the D.R. closed, and we have limited supplies of his medicines.

But the worst thing is his inability to be like “normal kids.” He has a port in his stomach that connects him to his dialysis machine every night from 7:00 pm to about 7:00 am, so he cannot join in the Children’s Church Services at night or watch a movie like the rest.

He cannot go into the “boys’ rooms” because he can only go into his room, which is constantly sanitized!

He cannot get dirty, play soccer or other games.

And he has the worst “bland diet” in the world.

We recently got two cute Rottie puppies, which the kids love, but they cannot come into his room, and he cannot go to theirs.

About two months ago, he was supposed to take a test to pass from 6th grade into Jr. High. He was so excited because he knew he would pass. But, the day before his test, he had some physical problems, and the D.R. doctors wanted to see him ASAP (this was before the border closed). He was there during the days when he was supposed to take that test, and when he returned, the school system here in Haiti would not let him take that test because he was absent!

So, now he has to repeat that whole process again. I saw all our Haitian children walking to school this am while Jackson was finishing up with his morning routine… and he was walking by himself.

We pray that somehow, God will give him a miracle so that he can have a “normal life!”

We all love Jackson.
