We found Jean Edwouard when we were in a very poor Haitian Village. He was about five or a little more. He was making a fire and cooking for “two families.” I knew then he was a “restavek slave child.” We asked if we could take him to our Orphanage, and the families agreed.
When he came to our Orphanage, he found out that he “liked to sew!” At that time, all the boys were wearing “skinny jeans,” and they needed someone to sew pants to make the pant legs “skinnier!” Little Jean Edwouard took the job! He hand-sewed all the boys’ school pants and uniforms. We never knew this until school started, and all our boys had “skinny legs!”
One of our partners heard about this young boy who loved to sew, and they sent a sewing machine!! He has been sewing ever since and has done a lot of sewing projects! Next year, he and his partner will be making the kids’ “school uniforms!” We are so proud of Jean Edwouard!
