Jean Edward (Edwouard)…
We love this guy! He is our “Jean Edward.” We rescued him from a large, poor family who was using him as a “restavek slave.” (A restavek is a child whose parents have died, and the orphan child is “given” to a relative to live with). This child becomes a slave and never gets to go to school, but will end up staying with this family relative but never being inducted as part of that family.
We saw this as we were doing a food distribution there hosted by Feed My Starving Children. When we left the village, we brought the little boy home with us. After about a year, we noticed that the little boy was “hand-sewing” his big brothers’ school pants to give them the “skinny look!”
Fast forward to now, and Jean Edward is teaching other young men to sew. Our partners began to send in other sewing machines, and this has created more jobs!!
“Of all the countries, Haiti is one of the best when it comes to jobs doing anything with “hands-on!” Haitians are an amazing people!”
