We found Jean Edwouard in a remote “mud hut village” when he was less than six years old. I watched as this little boy carried heavy buckets of water on his head, cooked food for a large family, and then did other chores. I knew by watching him that he was a “restavek slave child.”
In Haiti, when a child’s parents die, that child goes to live with relatives, but he or she is now a “slave.” (The word “restavek” means “to rest with or live with another family.”) But that child will become a slave!
We went to the “family,” and told them that we would be taking him home! ( A team from “Feed My Starving Children” was with us as we brought Jean Edwouard to our Orphanage!!)
As he grew, we found out that he loved to “sew” anything! At first, he was sewing with his hands, but then, one of our partners bought him a new sewing machine!!
His first love was to “re-make” sofas, etc.! He also makes clothing, but his first love is “upholstery” and redoing anything broken! He is amazing, and his “gift from God” is amazing!
We have been raising “thoroughbreds!” Now, we can concentrate on serving the “poorest of the poor!!”
We are so proud of our Haitian children.
