God’s words to the exiled people of Jerusalem to settle down and make gardens and rely on them for food serve us even today as we plan a new project to expand our gardens to provide for our children and workers in Haiti. Perhaps you have followed our progress as we gradually grew our gardens at the Agricultural Training Center (ATC), onto the family gardens at Miracle Village, and then to the large Verje’ garden at Love A Child near the children’s home. Now, we have a vision to expand even more, almost doubling our gardens. Wilner, our Director of the ATC, has a great vision to add another 3+ acres of gardens near the Verje’ garden that already provides fresh fruits and vegetables for the 5 kitchens that serve Love A Child. The vision is to clear another 3-acre section from the rough, dense parched scrub thorns that claim the land now. We must clear the land, put up a fence to protect the area from free-roaming animals, and put in a water system to bring water from one of our wells. The costs of the new pump and irrigation lines, fencing, and ground clearing will be $18,000. We pray we will have enough supporters donating to our “Sustainability Programs” to allow us to realize this vision for the future. As Wilner says, “The vision is to spend once, harvest forever.” Amen.
