Kristela… “There’s Always One in the Crowd!”

We could call Kristela the “prodigal daughter,” because she is now living with her relatives in the mountainous village of Savaan Pit. (We are still her parents and we are still supporting her with school, food, medical, and clothing.) This is where she was born.

As we told you before, her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were all Voodoo. But Kristela’s mother accepted Jesus about a month before she passed away. Her mother had a serious infection and came to us during a Mobile Clinic. We did our best, but her mother died after we left the village, and weeks later her father brought her to us full of sores. He asked us to take her.

Kristela was “different.” She was sweet and loving but always getting into trouble! As she grew, she failed several classes but finally made it to 12th grade. A while ago, when Bobby and I had to go to the States, she was disobedient to one of the “mothers” at our Children’s Home “several times.” So I sent her back to the mountains to finish her last year of school! She is in the “school of hard knocks!” But, Kristela doesn’t let anything bother her. She will finish 12th grade and then we can help her figure out what she wants to do! Out of 85 kids, she has been one of the sweetest, but my biggest challenge!
