Kwashiorkor Malnutrition…

Kwashiorkor Malnutrition…

There are two types of malnutrition. One is called Marasmus. You can identify this type because you think of the skinny, bony babies, where you can see almost all their bones. They have a lot of weight loss. They are dehydrated… their stomach shrinks and they have diarrhea.

There is another type of malnutrition called Kwashiorkor. These babies are fat and because of this, the baby’s mother thinks the child is “fat and cute!” (Poor Haitian mothers do not realize how close to death these babies are!) These babies have fluid buildup in their bodies. They have a lot of swelling, especially in their belly and face.

This is little Salencia Oristal, and she is 7 months old. She had been transferred from our Jesus Healing Center to our Malnutrition Clinic. She will take a while to heal. We must change her diet. Our Malnutrition Clinic is always full of babies and toddlers. When the child is ready to go home, we will send special food created by Feed My Starving Children. This is the best food for children with these health problems. When the child is ready to go home, the Feed My Starving Children food will go home with their mother. When it is finished, she can come back for more.

Special thanks to Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope for sponsoring our Jesus Healing Center each month and for their help with the building of our Malnutrition Clinic. If this child had not been brought to our clinic and transferred to our Malnutrition Center, she would have died. We are thankful to our doctors, nurses, partners, and for all of you who donate clothing, diapers, etc.

God bless you and God bless Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope.
