“Let’s Go to School!”

“Let’s Go to School!”

We know that kids here in the United States like school, but “no one loves school more than a Haitian child!” In the United States, some children take things for granted…. Our children who go to “public schools” can wear shorts, jeans, etc. Our children in the United States usually go with their parents to pick out casual school clothes.

Here in Haiti, going to school is a “dream!” Haitian children must have uniforms and “school shoes.” It is hard on poor families to buy uniforms, shoes, socks, etc. (In Haiti, almost all schools require black shoes, no tennis shoes.) School in Haiti starts September 14th. For any Haitian child, this is one of the “best days of their lives!” Children in our area of Fond Parisien, Haiti, will be walking to our school with “big smiles on their faces!”

We have been high in the mountains of Haiti, driving our four-wheel-drives up steep mountain roads, and we have seen happy little Haitian schoolchildren climbing those mountains to get to school! (Some of you reading this have been in our four-wheel-drives with us, as we watched little Haitian children happily walking up and down mountains… on the way to school!)

Education is priceless, especially in poor countries! We hope and pray that our children here in the United States can understand “how blessed we are!” God is good!
