Once upon a time, a poor mother would come to the gate at our old orphanage in Petionville, Haiti. She told us that “she and her son, Carlos, had no place to stay.” At that time, little Carlos was about three. He and his mother spent many nights sleeping in horrible places. His mother had a hard time finding a place to sleep at night. She would often come to our gate at our “old orphanage” and ask for food. Our workers would give her food, but she would return to sleep at night on the street. We decided to take her and her little son, Carlos, into our orphanage. We also gave his mother, Jan, a job… and they have been with us since we moved here to Fond Parisien!
Dieuferly, in the red cap, came from the mountains. Once, as we had conducted a Mobile Clinic in a “far away” village, we noticed a poor mother with many children, but in her arms was a little toddler with “club feet!” Our hearts went out to the little toddler as we thought about him growing up with club feet. We decided to bring Dieuferly into our orphanage. Later, God opened the door so that we could bring Dieuferly back down that steep mountain to us! The United States Military was, at that time, in Haiti. They were doing some surgeries, and we were able to get them to operate on Dieuferly’s club feet! It was tough, but the surgery helped Dieuferly so much! Later, he would have additional surgeries in the Dominican Republic.
Today, “Little Carlos” has grown into “Big Carlos!” He is a great help here at Love A Child! Dieuferly and his brothers run a restaurant here in Fond Parisien! All the grown kids will “always be brothers and sisters” from our orphanage! We love them all!
