Lomene Strives for More

Today, four of our older children took their exams to finish high school… Joseph, Jonas, Kenson, and Lomene. This is quite the feat for any high school student in Haiti because the test is “very, very difficult.”

We are so proud of Lomene and how far she has come. Of all the children, she would be the least likely to make it this far because she was a “restavek slave child.” We found her when she was washing dishes, washing clothes, cooking for two families, and taking care of small children. She was so tiny and overwhelmed by the workload she was given, but she never complained. But when we are dealt things that are bad in our life, we must put our faith in God and trust Him. That is what she did…

We took Lomene back to our orphanage. Soon, the little girl who had never been to school was in school! And, in a few days, she will find out if she has passed Philo, which is a great accomplishment. It is the same as taking a test in the first year of college in the States!

Her dream is to be the “Chief Cook” in our orphanage! “Lomene, you are not there yet because no one can top “Nini,” but you are a great cook!!!” We love Lomene, and we hope and pray that she passes!!!
