Bobby and I wanted to share with you some things, not from the heart of a missionary, because you already know where we have come from and what we have been through here in Haiti, but from “the heart of a mother and father,” because all these children God has given us are “ours,”…we are a “family.”
As most of you know, recently, four of our college students were kidnapped… Roselyne, Fabienne, Lovely, and Pistache. Even though the Lord delivered them through a miracle, it has affected their lives and they try each day to forget the horrors they have seen. The fact that gangs have taken over many areas of Haiti, makes each day stressful. We rented two apartments since we had a total of 24 children going to college in Port-au-Prince. The gangs are on the roads. When our children walk to college or catch a ride from their apartment, they are being watched by gang members. Even the boys have told us how scared they are to go to college and get back to their apartment due to the gangs.
This morning, one of our older boys, Stanley, who is studying engineering, wrote and told us how they are affected, just trying to get to college every day. These Haitian children do not “party” as other college kids do in the states… they are just trying to live one day at a time, starving for their education. We do not consider these children as “orphans.” They are “our children” whom we have raised since babies or very small children. Keeping our children safe in Haiti is our “Number One Priority” right now.
We pray that “intervention” comes to Haiti soon, but if it does not, we will be forced to send the children overseas to another country for their college education, where it is safe. We are asking everyone to pray that God sends “help” to Haiti, so that our children, other missionary’s children, and all Haitian people will be able to live normal lives with peace and safety.
