Little Lovencia is just one of the babies brought here to our Malnutrition Clinic whose life has been saved!!! She lives with her parents and three brothers in an area called “La Source.” Her family is in “extreme poverty.” The mother sells tiny bags of water and anything else she can find to sell. (There are “before” and “after” photos above.)
Lovencia’s poor father is a “stone breaker.” He sits by the dry riverbed all day long in the hot Haitian sun and breaks “one rock at a time” in order to make a “huge pile of rocks,” which the trucks will pick up and pay “hardly anything!”
“Staple Food…”
Since the family cannot afford hardly anything to buy, their “staple diet” is “water with sugar” or “dlo sik.” There is no other food… Living in the mountain area, they cannot even look for wood on someone else’s land..they don’t even own one chicken!
“Malnutrition Sets In…”
All Haitian mothers want “big fat babies!” They not only think they are beautiful, but it is a sign of prosperity. So, when mothers feed their babies “sugar water,” and the babies gain weight, the weight is not “strong bones,” but it is mostly bones and water. The baby “looks healthy,” but the baby is at the “doorstep to death. The baby has swollen face, loss of appetite, worms, diarrhea, and pain all over her body. Madamn Marlene, the baby’s mother, did not even have one “gourde” (or one cent) to take her the doctor. So, the mother prepared a “tea,” for the baby, who got worse.
One day, a lady told the mother, “you need to take the baby to Love A Child. The doctors will examine her and treat her, and it will not cost you anything.” So, the baby’s mother, not having one gourde, walked all the way with her baby.
Our doctor stands outside the clinic each morning, looking for the “worst patient,” and when he saw the baby, he immediately took her in. When he examined her, he sent her immediately to our Malnutrition Clinic. There, she has been receiving special food, special milk, vitamins, and everything that she needs… Look at what a difference has to come to little Lovencia!!
Thank you, partners, because you are saving little lives right from where you are!!!
We love you and thank you. Bobby and Sherry
