The first time I saw Mackenson, we were in a Mobile Medical Clinic far away in the mountains. An elderly farmer came in, carrying a toddler; when I looked at his swollen face, belly, and entire body, I knew he had malnutrition, and he had “the worst kind.”
I asked his father what he was eating, and his father said, “Whatever I find!”
I thought this child was about three at the least… but I was shocked to find out that he was much, much older!
We carried him on the long trip down the mountain to our orphanage. We sent him to a hospital first due to the seriousness of his condition.
It took a “long time” for him to recover, and his father wasn’t coming back… anytime soon.
Mackenson was an intelligent child! He “loved school!” He was doing well until he had a “stroke” during school. After that, he walked with a limp.
He is now 17, loves dominoes, and wants to be a Geography teacher!! And, “he really knows his Bible!”
We love this kid!
