Every one of us has an enemy… maybe we don’t even realize it. It could even be someone who is “jealous” of you. You can feel that “bad spirit” when you are around them… but God wants us to make our enemies, our friends…

The other day when I was in the States, I was renting a car. There was only one lady behind the counter, who was handling two different car rentals. Bobby had made the rental in his name a while back, so he thought that they would switch the name to me, Sherry. But, it wasn’t that easy…

Bobby was getting on the plane and we were losing connections, and he tried to call the rental company, but couldn’t. I asked the lady to please change the rental to my name… and wow! You would have thought I had asked something hard. But, she was not budging.

“Your husband needs to call them and cancel that rental and we will switch it to your name.” Nothing was working out and customers were lining up behind me… angrily. I had to go 4 1/2 hours to make it to a wedding of our friends… and this lady at the rental place hated me, I thought.

Well, I decided to thank her for what she was trying to do, even if she could not do it. I told her what a great job she was doing, how patient she was, and that her company should be paying her more for taking care of two different car rentals! Wow, again! She really warmed up! By that time, Bobby had gotten through before the plane took off and I got my rental.

Before I left, I handed her a little piece of white paper, and tucked $20 inside it with a note that said, “Thank you!” Instantly, the light came on! She was so sweet, and she wrote down her email address, “in case I ever had a problem at that airport with my car rental!” It is better to make friends than enemies.

“If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee…” Prov. 25:21-22
