Little Malaika was covered with sores when she was brought into our Jesus Healing Center. Her mother had ten children, three of them had died.
In Haiti, sometimes the fathers believe the child is “not theirs.” It is an evil thing that people bound with Voodoo believe. So, the father gives the child his blood to drink. If the child is not his, the child will die. If the child is his, the child will live, the child will live because it is “the same blood!” This is the paternal test of those who are not Christian, or those who are not educated. However, he still left home and did not take care of these children.
Malaika’s mother does not have a steady job. She collects sticks to sell and leaves to make teas. She walks in the sun for about 2 hours to sell tea leaves at the outdoor market and if she does not sell tea, she has to go home and boil salt water soup for her children.
Sometimes, her mother “works the land” (like a farmer), like a job… she makes hardly anything. She has no place to sleep with the children, and when they are sick they cannot take care of themselves at home. Her income is used to buy bread for her children.
Someone had lent her a shack house to sleep in… there is no running water, but there is an outhouse, and that is all they have. Malaika was so malnourished and infested with sores when she first came to the Jesus Healing Center. Everyone was astounded at the condition of this baby. After our doctors examined her, they had to send her to our Malnutrition Clinic. At eight months old, she was only 13.7 Kilos. She suffered from severe Malnutrition, Dehydration, and Scabies. After 2 months, her skin began to clear up, due to the medicine she received at our Jesus Healing Center and Malnutrition Clinic. These two work “hand in hand.”
Little Malaika is such a “baby doll!” Look at her big beautiful eyes and hair! What father could possibly leave her and her siblings and his wife? It is so sad…
However, just look at the difference in this baby since she came to our Jesus Healing Center and Malnutrition Clinic!!! She is all set to go home with new clothes and food!!! Her little outfits, like so many others, were donated by friends who buy and make clothes for the children of Haiti. They attach a “Memory Card” (see orange cards) with each new dress, shirt, child’s clothing, pants, or whatever it is. These are in memory of someone who served in the Armed Forces and gave their lives for our country!
Special thanks to the precious souls, who sent in the clothing to Malaika and many others in their honor! God bless you! We love you!
