Meals to the Hungry in Truttier

It was the most dangerous position we have ever been in… distributing food in Truttier, at the garbage dumps.

Even though we could not be there in person for many months, due to the riots, burning tires, roadblocks and gunfire, our Haitian crew was there almost every time. We have really missed seeing all these people… all these faces, and today, we had “fresh black beans,” as well as the rice mixtures in big boxes that our friends at Feed My Starving Children donate. We did not realize that the gates “to keep us in, and all the thousands of people out,” had been broken down flat!

There was no way to keep back the crowd, even with the police and ten of our hired local security. They were not mean, they were just “desperate” mothers and fathers, trying to get a box of food and some beans for their children. It was hard not to cry. If God had not put us on the “giving end” and Bobby and I had been in the crowd on the receiving end, we would have done the same thing.

Even though it was dangerous, we knew the people loved us… they all just wanted food, and many were from other areas, outside Truttier. We came back thanking the Lord for helping us feed all those hundreds and hundreds of people, and asking God to make a way for us to go back each month, in a “safe area.”

Of all the places in Haiti, this one breaks our hearts more than any other. Thank you, wonderful partners, for all you have done for the poor!! We love being “your boots on the ground!”
