This is Natalie, in her 10th-grade school classroom. She has never been out of Haiti, so she knows nothing about “Minnie Mouse,” except for some of the kids’ movies.

Natalie’s mother was never in good health. She had a lot of children, and when Natalie was born, the baby was so undernourished and frail, we thought she would die “anytime.”

Due to the fact that her mother was ill, poor, and had lots of children, she was afraid “baby Natalie” would not make it. We didn’t want “another orphanage child,” but we were afraid she would die… so, we took her in.

Natalie is no trouble… She goes to school, does her chores, and “never beats up on brothers.” Ha! (We actually never have “kid jealousy,” nor arguments about “who’s doing what work” today!) She loves school and makes good grades. She is now 16 and wants to be a Pediatrician. She loves “playing cards” and dominoes, but she still loves her dolls!

And, everyone loves “Natalie!”
