Nelson… His real name is Wisnelson, but we shortened it to Nelson. This was a sad story of how families in Haiti who are involved in voodoo can do strange things to helpless children.
His voodoo mother had brought him outside her hut, grabbing him by one arm and dumping him on the ground, in the heat of the sun, naked, beside a large hog! No food or water! No motherly love! Kids would slap him on the head and call him “Pa bezouin ou,” which means, “You are worthless!”
I was so sad and furious! I went over and picked him up, and he wrapped his skinny arms around my neck. I told his mother, “I’m taking him home with me!” She never said a thing…
It was a long road, but Nelson can run, do cartwheels, and flips in the air! He is 13 and at the head of his class!
He loves soccer and wants to be a mechanic!! And he is thankful to God for saving him!
Thank you, partners!
