It is so hard to realize that Nelson is now 15 years old! I have to “catch myself” and say, “How did that little toddler grow up to become such a sweet and strong young teenager?!”
I can remember when my friend, Kaeli, and I brought him out of the “mud hut village” of “Old Letant!” His parents lived in a “mud hut!” As we were walking through the village, we saw a Haitian woman (his mother) pick him up “by one arm” and set him down on the muddy ground beside a “huge hog!!” It was summer and the heat was unbearable. We went over to see the mother. I picked up the toddler, who could not walk, and I spoke to his mother. I said, “I know your child cannot walk, but let me have him for a while and I can make him walk!” She agreed!
In no time at all, Nelson learned how to stand up without falling. We put him on a tricycle, and he learned how to use his legs. Soon, he was running and jumping!
Nelson will be in 9th grade. He loves basketball and soccer! I asked him what he wanted to be and he replied, “A psychologist!” We love Nelson! Sherry
