Nelson’s “Thank You” Note

This is Nelson. He is now 12. It seems like yesterday that I saw him sitting on the ground by his mud hut, completely naked. It was in the village of “Old Letant.” Nelson was about two. His mother would pick him up by one arm and “dump him on the ground,” in the hot sun.

He always sat on his knees with them folded back. All the kids called him names. Their favorite name was “pa bezouin,” or “I don’t want you.” We came, got him, and took him home. It was a long recovery but in a couple of months, he was walking.

Nelson is now 12 and in 6th grade! This happens because you care for children like Nelson! God bless the most wonderful partners in the world, and you are one of them!

P.S. This is Nelson writing a little note to say “thank you for helping me.”
