New Chicken School Starting Soon: 5-31-18 12:15 PM

The dates for our next “chicken school” have just been set for July 22-28, 2018. There is already interest from eight students (the maximum number for a training session), and they will be coming from all over Haiti to the Poul Mirak Chicken School. Students from as far away as Bohoc, Pignon, and Cabaret will come for a 6-day intensive course introducing them to the basics of raising chickens for food and profit. Now that the Poul Mirak co-operative is also raising layer hens for egg production, the students will learn about taking care of chickens from day-old chicks up through 2-year-old layers.

This is our second chicken school session, and it fulfills one of the original stated objectives of this sustainability project; to provide on-going education in poultry science geared toward the conditions in Haiti. Special thanks go to those donors who help sponsor tuition for the students in our sustainability training programs and especially to Mike Welch and the World Poultry Foundation whose vision and commitment enable this wonderful project to help hundreds of Haitian people have meat protein and meaningful self-sustainability through the Poul Mirak chicken co-op project. Both of Love A Child’s Sustainability Programs, Agriculture Extension and Chicken School training projects are an important way for us to help Haitians help themselves.
