New Year’s Day in Haiti

New Year’s Day is the biggest holiday for Haitians! They make a special soup from a certain pumpkin called “soup joumou!” If you don’t have this soup on the first day of the year, it is almost a disaster! They “have to have this soup” on January 1st. Many Haitians do not have the money to buy the ingredients, like the meat, and they are very sad. It starts their New Year off sad. However, no matter what happened last year, all Haitians look forward to the New Year, hoping that things will be better than the last! It is a day to “hug anyone you can,” and give them a kiss and tell them “Happy New Year!” If possible, they will try to visit the relatives!!

As for our “Love A Child kids,” they love this soup, and their New Year has started off great! Happy New Year to all of you from all of us.
