Yesterday, this precious lady had her baby in the village of Old Letant “all by herself.” The baby was born on a mud hut floor, and it is a miracle that infection has not set in. When our missionary Kaeli found out, she went to Old Letant to make sure the lady didn’t have a fever, and the baby was okay. The lady had not breastfed her baby yet. She also did not want to leave her mud hut for three months and had buried the placenta inside her hut, due to superstitions and cultural reasons. She had cut the umbilical cord with a dirty razor. These are some of the reasons we must teach Haitian mothers about taking good care of their babies and themselves. Many mothers and children die during childbirth or immediately after the birth. Many of the children at our Love A Child Children’s Home came here because their mothers had died in childbirth. We are building a Birthing Center, which is also a “Teaching Center,” with prenatal and postnatal care for poor mothers. We are $150,000 from our goal to fund the Birthing Center, so we are in the “home stretch.” If you would like to be a part of this wonderful outreach or give a “Memorial Gift” in the name of your mother, grandmother, or a loved one, please call our Love A Child Office at (239) 210-6107. Thank you, and God bless you. Bobby and Sherry
