Not Your Average Teenager

It may be that you have a hard time getting a young teen to do some work, but our kids here at Love A Child “are always working.”

(My job is looking for work for them to do, ha!)

Seriously, the younger girls cook, clean, iron, and everything. This is Fabiola, who is just 12. She loves the things “teens” like, but she also loves dolls, skipping rope, and babysitting the two little ones. She is always ironing “something.”

Fabiola is a very intelligent young girl. She does great work in school and is very respectful…she is always helping one of the “mothers” or doing what she can to help. She has been with us since she was just a small, small girl. Her father gave her up when her mother died.

Here in Haiti, men don’t usually “fight” for custody of a child. If a father is poor and his wife dies, he must find a way for someone else to raise the latest child. Orphan girls are often “treated like they are trash,” and often, in school, other children make fun of them.

We have always taught our girls that “God has a plan for them.” That they have value in their lives. That they can “be anything they want to be,” because God will make a way!

Thank you, partners, for all your love and support of these children, who are the future of Haiti.
