One More Stop Before We’re Back In Haiti

We are in the Dominican Republic with Jesse Ostrander and his wife, Kim, and Michelene, who grew up in our Children’s Home. (Tomorrow we will be in La Romana checking on some land papers and the church that David George and his partners built, in a very poor area. Then that afternoonwe will be flying back to Haiti.)

Michelene was about five years old when her mother began working for us. They were having a hard time, so we took in Michelene and her brothers. Her motherMadamn Michelene, still works for us, but three years ago, Michelene moved to the Dominican Republic to get a job. She speaks fluent Spanish, EnglishFrench, and her native language, Creole, and wants to learn Russian! She is doing good on her own, and we are proud of her.

She is the manager of a department store. The Dominican Republic borders Haiti but is much different than Haiti. Everything is clean, organized, and the country is safe. Nearly everyone is working, and crops grow well. It is a peaceful country. Across the border, Haiti is struggling, and the poor try to find just one meal a day. Gangs are in the street, and riots everywhere. It is unbelievable that two countries on the same island could be so different.

But, Haiti is where God called us, and we are happy there. We want to thank the Lord for all His many blessings!!
