Her very poor mother had serious health problems, and these health problems were passed down to Ericka. When we found her, she was crying and covered with sores! As she grew, we found out that she could not talk plainly, and even had trouble walking. She was also mentally slow and had a hard time in school. (Some classes she failed several times, but would not give up!) She actually wants to be a nurse, but doesn’t realize that will never happen. Ericka is probably the sweetest of all the girls. She helps with house cleaning, and her favorite sport is running, even though she has a hard time. Ericka is now in 7th grade. Even though her professor had told her not to continue, she still “ploughs on ahead!” She is happy, grateful, and determined!
