Our Jean Edwourd…

We were told that Jean Edwourd’s parents were killed in a hurricane near Fond Parisien, Haiti. He was sent to live with relatives, but when that happens they usually become a “restavek.” This is a child whose parents have died, and they have to go live with a relative. They will have to work hard all their life… they will become a “slave child.”

We found Jean Edwourd in the poor village of Old Letant, where there are mud-hut houses, and bare naked children with red hair and swollen stomachs. We knew that we had to rescue Jean Edwourd, this 6-year-old boy who had been cooking, carrying buckets of water, and doing everything… except “being a child.”

We brought him home with us, and as he grew, we were curious about what he wanted to do in school. He wanted to be a “tailor!” He wanted to be able to design jackets, suits, gowns, anything! Today, he and some others have a “Sewing Shop!” They can do alterations and sew anything, they even make their own clothing patterns. Jean Edwourd is a handsome young man, sweet, humble, and loved by everyone, especially his orphanage sisters!!!

Thank you, partners, who invest in these lives in Haiti! This is just some of the “fruit of your giving!!!”
