His mother had died and his dad had taken care of him. But one day, we got a call from our attorney saying that someone had found a child on the street with a badly burned hand. His father had gotten angry with him and had “held his hand in boiling water” to teach him a lesson. We told our attorney that we would send someone to pick him up. We brought him to our orphanage and the sight of his burned fingers “melted together” made me so angry at what this man had done. (You can surely know that he was involved in Voodoo!) We tried everything… and many doctors here in Haiti did their best, but his fingers still stuck together.

But, Jesse Ostrander, who works for us, found a specialist in the Dominican Republic! He worked hard on Lionel’s hand and fixed his fingers. Now, Lionel can use his hand! At the orphanage, he works hard and plays soccer! He’s in 8th grade, loves God, and wants to be a mechanic! Thank you and God bless you!
