Lomene is now in her second year of becoming a professional cook! This has always been her dream! We first saw Lomene when she was a little girl taking care of several families… cooking and washing clothes, etc. In Haiti, when a child’s mother and father die, or even when their mother dies, they are taken to live with a relative and they become a “restavek slave.” The word restavek means “to rest with,” but they are used to do all the domestic chores. They will never go to school!
Lomene graduated from High School and was determined to “rise above.” She is now in her second year, despite all the dangers in Haiti… She is determined to go on another year. This is her dream in life! We are so proud of Lomene!
