Ada… She’s Always Cooking Something Up!

Some kids call her “Ada,” and some call her Jessica. She and Bianca, her sister, have a brother here, Raphael. They came to us from Cape Haitian. Their aunt brought them to us, telling us that their parents had died aboard a “Haitian boat,” trying to get to the U.S.

We took the three children in. Bianca is in college here in Haiti, studying psychology. Ada and her brother are here at our orphanage. Ada loves to cook and is always so helpful!! She is in Philo and she is 18. She wants to be a doctor now, but she may change her thoughts. She loves to join in Praise Dances and she loves to sing! She will go far in her life. We all love “Ada,” Jessica!

The Big Birthday Bash Continued…

Last evening, we posted some pictures of the big “Birthday Bash Celebration” of 17 of our Love A Child children.

There are too many birthdays each month for each to have their own birthday party; it is very difficult to get to a “ grocery store” that sells ice cream or even to find birthday candles for the cake. (I had to buy the cake mix from the States and bring it in.) We could not buy “ice cream” as we normally do because we would have to go through gang territory. But, the kids had a delicious meal from the restaurant and afterward, cake at home! Each child got a little money in their envelope.

Left to right, front row: Joshua, 7; Ti Samuel, 9; Gina, 11; next row up, L to R: Rebecca, 17; Anna, 21; Fabiola, 15; Stephano, 13; Wilguens, 12; Esther, 20; Job, 26 (back row, Daniello, 13; Mackenson, 18; Raphael, 17; Georges, 25; Colin, 16; Dorrison, 16).

We actually had 17 at the end! Whew!

The kids have worked “very hard” in the heat of the depot, packing food for hungry families. They all have a heart for the poor and hungry. We are proud of all of them! Special thanks to our friends and partners who have helped us raise these children to love Jesus and serve the poor!

Thank you,
Bobby and Sherry

Word from the Mission Field

“Maybe God Doesn’t Care.”

Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever thought, “God is so busy He doesn’t have time for me.”

Jeremiah, the great prophet, got a message from God. “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

If we only knew how much God loves us, and that He knows how many hairs are on our head… He loves and cares for us! He knew us when we were in our mother’s womb! Let’s serve an amazing, loving God who cares about us every minute of the day. The problem you are wrestling with is “God’s Problem.” He knows what to do and how to handle it! Let the Lord fix it for you! Have a great day!

Birthday Bash!

Our “Big Birthday Bash!” Tonight, we had a “Birthday Party” at Epidor Restaurant for nine of our Haitian children! The last time I went to the States, I bought cake mix, etc., because there are no grocery stores nearby now, because of the gangs. We took all the kids from our orphanage to the restaurant where they got the best food!! The children really enjoyed it! Each child got some money in an envelope, which they will save! The food was wonderful!!

All the children sat quietly waiting, and then talked, and had a great time! They told us how good the food was! Afterward, we went to load the kids up on our bus, but it wasn’t working. (Maybe it needs a new battery.) We got another truck, the kids piled in, and we drove back to our orphanage to have some birthday cake!

Life is full of “memories!” Someone once said, “When you go through life, make good memories!” Tonight, that’s what we did! Thanks to you, all our wonderful friends and partners for everything you do for Haiti’s children.

Humble Jonas

”He Could Hold a Heavy Haitian Hoe, but Not a Piece of Chalk!”

Jonas… The first time we saw Jonas, he was up in the mountains, working in the heat of the Haitian sun, in a garden. In his hands was a Haitian “wou,” a large, heavy Haitian garden hoe. He had to work in the hot sun with no water and when he finished, he got very little food. This is what happens in Haiti when a child loses his parents. He goes to live with a relative as a servant. He will be called a “restavek.” He will “never go to school,” and never eat as much as the owner’s children.

When we rescued Jonas, it took a long time for him to adjust. You would not believe what his biggest problem was…  “holding a pencil in his hand to learn to write!” He would often cry with big tears running down his face because he could not understand how to “hold a pencil or a piece of chalk!”

Jonas is in school, but he has to be in a class with younger children. He is such a sweet, humble, young boy, and hard-working. You can see him packing food with the other children. Jonas is a “gift from God,” and we love him very much.

Word from the Mission Field

“Pray for Haiti.”

“As a roaring lion and a ranging bear, so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.” Proverbs 28:15

We are asking you to take a few minutes every day to say a prayer for the poor here in Haiti. Those that are in control of the country are with the gangs. They control many areas of Haiti with their guns and weapons. The poor cannot get around to sell to make a living. In the town of Ganthier, about 9 miles from us, gangs took over the whole town and the poor fled! They are sleeping on streets, under trees, in school yards, or anywhere they can!  They picked up what they could and fled here, to Fond Parisien! That is why we will be feeding 1,000 families this week! Let’s pray for Haiti, let’s pray for the poor, and let’s pray that many turn to Jesus in this hour of need, God bless you.

Love A Child Kids Stepping Up!

We are so proud of our Love A Child kids growing up! George, left, not only helps with our Feeding Programs, but drives our heavy-duty equipment and helps in so many ways. Jean Gardy is one of our accountants. He is “Mr. Cheapskate,” because he doesn’t let us buy anything that is too high! (I think he still has his first “Haitian Gourde,” he has earned!!) He doesn’t let anyone “overspend!” Dieuferly came all the way from the mountains with us, as we carried him on our mule. He had double clubfeet and many operations. He is our video guy/ photographer, and he is the one who finds the villages “most in need of food.” Mikael assists all his brothers in our Feeding Programs. He is responsible for security and making sure everything is ready, to cook food for the hungry children! He’s a tough little guy! These young men grew up “helping poor hungry children,” and God has blessed them! We are so proud of them and other Love A Child kids!

Food Distribution to To Many Displaced Families

1,000 Hungry Families Will Be Fed! Thank You.

Tuesday, Oct 22nd.

Our orphan children have been working hard bagging hundreds of sacks of food for 1,000 families, which will last them two weeks. Rice, beans, oil, macaroni, spaghetti, sugar, spices, and much more. Most of these families have been run out of their homes by the gangs and have no place to live now.

We are so excited! Farmer John will send several pieces of beautiful chicken for each of the 1,000 families! Victor Marx is sponsoring the chicken to help Farmer John. Stephanie, Natalie, and everyone have worked very hard. Thank you partners and friends for making a difference! Love is something you do!

“Nothing Too Hard For Me”

“I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for me?” – Jeremiah 32:27

The answer is “no.” Jeremiah was a Prophet of God, born in the town of Anathoth. Of all the Prophets, I think he must have sacrificed more. He forbade him to marry and have children. God told him to warn of the coming battles and for His people to repent! Jeremiah talked with God as if He was his closest friend. But the one thing God wanted Jeremiah to know was this, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?”

Today, no matter what you are facing, you must remember, “There is nothing, absolutely nothing too hard for God!” Have a good day because help is on the way!
