Feeding Hungry Children in the Midst of Haiti’s Problems

It has been difficult for all our missionary friends to make it to Love A Child to pick up food.

Each month, we have over 100 missionaries and organizations to share food with… Now, due to the gangs, and the insecurity, and the lack of fuel in the country, only about one-fourth of the organizations on our list have been able to come for food…

MABO is one of the few organizations that have made it through the roadblocks, the gangs. One of the major gangs has kidnapped all the fuel trucks and is holding on to them… All the rest of us are struggling each day to survive and feed children like these… Our hearts break for all the other children and their families who are suffering.

Remember us in your prayers.

Word from the Mission Field

“When Enough is Enough”

Tired of fighting those battles? Does it seem like “you win one, you lose one?” The enemy’s plan is to tire us out so that we will give up, but we can never “give up.” Ephesians 6 tells us about our “battle.” We learn that we are never, never fighting against flesh and blood, although it may seem like that. The enemy we had against us in Haiti for many, many years, we thought was an angry man, but that wasn’t true.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood (the battle is not with your ex-husband or the court or anyone else), but against principalities, against (Satanic) powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and HAVING DONE ALL, TO STAND!” (Ephesians 6:12-13)

There comes a time when we must stand and say, “Enough is enough!!” This is a “spiritual warfare.” It’s not your kids. It’s the “spirit” that is in your kids. It’s not the banker, it’s the “spirit” behind the banker. When we realize this, we take a stand and say, “Enough is enough!” We must learn to “bind those spirits” in the name of Jesus!!! We can! We must!!!

Always remember, we are on the “winning side” with Jesus!

Update on Nelson

It was about 5:30 AM this morning when I had to go outside and let our dog Sampson out. There was little Nelson, working hard, cleaning the truck, and giving it a super ”spit-shine!” He was very particular with his work, and when I told him what a good job he did he smiled “from ear to ear!”

It was not that long ago when we were in the village of “Old Letant,” and saw that tiny, naked little boy sitting on his “knees” on the dirty ground. There was a large hog beside him, and the Haitian sun was beating down. His father, steeped in Voodoo, cared nothing about him. His parents thought he was “stupid” because he could not stand, and he could not walk or talk. They were hoping that he would “die.”

I grabbed him up naked and dirty and went to talk to his mother. I said, “Your son will die unless you give him to me.” She said, “Take him… take him.” And we quickly climbed into the truck.

After about a year, Nelson could not only stand, but he was running! And, he was talking! And soon, he was in school! He is a hard worker, loves to play soccer, and is “smart as a whip” in school. He loves to work, play and eat! No telling what God has in store for him!!! We all love this kid! Sherry

Jasson and Dieuferly Leave for the Dominican Republic

Early this morning, Jasson (Jackson) and Dieuferly left for the Dominican Republic, accompanied by Philimond, the best driver we have ever had, and the safest. We were “very concerned” about them crossing the Dominican Republic border because we had heard that 10,000 Dominican Soldiers were sent to secure the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

We just got a call through and they had “Joker” (our Dominican Republic mechanic) in the truck, and Philimond was flying “over the radar,” flaps up! Ha! They were in Baharona when we called.

Dieuferly had an appointment with his surgeon today for his examination because he had difficult “club foot surgery” over a month ago. (He has been in constant pain for years.) He is doing well but just had to check in with his surgeon. Jasson, as you may know, has kidney problems. Jesse Ostrander, a Love A Child missionary, found a specialist in the Dominican Republic that handles children with kidney problems. Jasson has an appointment with his kidney specialist for more tests. We are also trying to buy a Dialysis machine for Jasson so that he could have the treatments done at home here at Love A Child in the future, rather than trips to downtown Haiti, in dangerous areas, where gangs and kidnappers are waiting.

Jesse did a great job of finding these doctors, making all the arrangements, and much, much more. Thank you, Jesse!!! Sherry and I stayed behind because we are preparing to take the tents and emergency supplies back to Jérémie, in southern Haiti. We want to thank the Lord first, and all of you our wonderful partners for your prayers and support all these years, we love and thank you.  –  Bobby and Sherry

Sharing Our Food …

We love sharing our food, especially in horrific times like these, here in Haiti. Due to gang violence, mothers and fathers have a hard time feeding their own children. But what about the children who have lost their parents?

We met the Association of Famns (women) many years ago. They actually started their outreach after the 2010 earthquake, which left so many children without parents. These Christian women began to gather children together and feed them and teach them about the Lord! We just consider it an honor to share with others who are doing what the Lord wants us to do!

Thank you, partners, for making all this possible.

“Love is something you do.”

Outnumbered

We have all felt that way some time or another in our lives! It’s when the enemy comes in with such force, that it feels like a hurricane… You can’t seem to catch your breath and then, you take another hit! You may be thinking that the enemy has you surrounded… maybe it’s a physical problem, a problem with your children, or just an evil force you can’t seem to lick. When you are at your low point, you can feel “outnumbered.” That’s just because you cannot see all the “forces on your side!” They are “your angels” at work!!!

In II Kings Chapter 8, there is a great story. The king of Syria was warring against Israel… He is angry with God’s servant Elisha because she is always a “step ahead of him.” So the king of Syria sends a GREAT HOST, WITH THUNDERING HORSES AND CHARIOTS TO THE HOUSE OF ELISHA. His meek little servant looks out the window and sees this host, with the angry king, stretching from one side to the other… and he is afraid. This army has compassed the city round about! The servant “thinks” they are “outnumbered.” Trembling, he tells Elisha.

But, Elisha doesn’t even sweat! He says, “Fear not! for they that be with us, are more than they that be with them!” (II Kings 5:16) When God opened the eyes of the servant, “Behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha!” And that’s not all, Elisha prayed that God would smite the enemy with blindness, and He did!

No matter what you are going through today, you are never, never “outnumbered!” The Lord of Hosts is with you! Do not fear!  –  Sherry

Update on Yonel (Lionel)

Yonel’s story is a sad one… Most everyone knows what happened to him when he was very young (about eight or nine years old). For some reason, his real father had been “extremely angry” with him… and held his hand in boiling water. A burn from boiling water is most often far worse than a charcoal fire burn.

His father had “thrown him out on the street,” where a Haitian Police Officer found him. Someone brought him to us and that is how we first took him in. Due to the problems here in Haiti, it was hard to find a specialist for his hand, because he needed a “plastic surgeon.” We had made one trip across the most dangerous area in Haiti, Martissaint, in order to get him some specialized care. That was two years ago. That day, when we traveled through “Martissaint,” we saw dead bodies on both sides of the road.

After getting to the hospital, the doctor examined him and wanted us to bring him back for surgery, but due to the violence in the country, we could not get there. Now, we have an appointment in the Dominican Republic, a seven-hour ride from here, but he does not yet have his Passport. The roads have been so dangerous, it has been difficult to get down there to get his Haitian Passport done. The roads are covered with gangs, roadblocks, burning tires, and “death waits for us anywhere along the road.”

So, as soon as the Haitian Embassy opens, we will get his Passport and get him over to the Dominican Republic, where we have a wonderful plastic surgeon waiting. We ask for your prayers for Yonel. He is a sweet, shy, intelligent, and hard-working young man, and deserves a chance to have his hand operated on. Let’s pray that this dangerous time in Haiti will soon pass. God bless you. – Sherry

Sharing Our Food with the Hungry

Each month, we share food with over 100 other missionary organizations that come here. This last time, only about half of the organizations could make it, due to all the gang violence in the streets, roadblocks, and burning tires. However, they are still coming little by little, as the roads are safe for travel.

These precious pictures are from our friends at Haitian Hope. They do wonderful work feeding hungry children. Just look at the smiles on their faces… We want to thank Feed My Starving Children for the food they send, and we thank all of our partners for sponsoring the food to come from the States all the way to Haiti. But, the end result is that little Haitian children will have a nice big plate of food to eat!!!

May God richly bless all our wonderful partners, like you, who give large, small, and the widow’s mite to make this happen. Haiti is in a hunger crisis right now… Thank you so much for listening with your heart! Bobby and Sherry

“Saving Little Lives…”

“And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.” Matt 18:5

These are some cuties from our Malnutrition Center Clinic. I never understood how “expensive” it would be to have a Malnutrition Center Clinic, but the Lord told us to build one! There are certain employees we need on staff always… nurses, those who are specially trained for [working with] malnourished children, a pediatrician, etc.

There are also cooks, and “nannies.” All these people do not work 24/7, of course, so we must have double the people for night-time. There are the “cleaners” who have to keep everything clean and sanitized. There are people who “wash clothes, sheets, etc…”

Then, there is the “very expensive” milk that comes from overseas, as we cannot buy it here in Haiti. Then, of course, is the person who must input all the information into the computer and those who take pictures of their growth, which are required.

And then, of course, maintenance, diesel fuel, food for all the workers, maintenance, etc… yard-upkeep. These little ones are “extremely frail,” and some will be here for quite a long time.

Every one of our employees “love these children” and they “love their jobs!”

In addition, we have the “out-patient children,” who come once a week with their mother after they are released. We send the “expensive milk” home with their mother and also Feed My Starving Children Food for the whole family.

So, we need a minimum of $10,000 a month for our Malnutrition Center Clinic to meet these needs. Last night, late, we received a call from a donor who is “up in her 90’s.” She was so excited about the program that she has pledged $1,000 per month! We are so thankful for all of you who give online, or through the mail. We have some sweeties that can send $10 a month and less… It takes “all of us working together!!!”

This project is very close to our hearts, so if the Lord is speaking to you to help in some way, here is our email address: [email protected] or you can give online: www.loveachild.com or by phone… 239 210-6107

The Lord blesses those who bless the poor, especially the children!

God bless you,
Sherry

P.S. We always need Children’s clothing, ages 6 months to 5 years, boys, and girls… Please, if you happen to see something on sale, grab it and pack and ship to the address below! Together, we are saving little lives!

Word from the Mission Field

Part two: The rest of the story.

Joseph was brought from the pit into Egypt then sold as a slave into Potiphar’s house. “And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man: and he was in the house his master the Egyptian”. Genesis 39: 2

Potiphar saw the wisdom of Joseph and made him ruler over his house and all his affairs in business. “And it came to pass after these things, that has master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, lay with me.” Genesis 39: 7

Then Potiphar threw Joseph into prison… Looked like the end for Joseph again. While in prison Pharaoh had a dream which troubled him. He called for his magicians, all his wise men, and told them his dream. None of them could interpret his dream. Genesis 41:8

Then the chief butler came unto the king I told him of Joseph in prison. Joseph interpreted the dream for the Pharaoh. What happens then? “Then Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See I have set over all the land of Egypt.” Genesis 41: 41

The Pharaoh put a gold chain around his neck, put the kings ring on the finger of Joseph. Made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. Genesis 41: 43 – Plus so much more about the story of Joseph. From being thrown into a pit to being ruler with the Pharaoh of all of Egypt! In this life, many things happen to us. Sometimes it looks like we are at our end. God has a Plan! Read about the story of dreaming Joseph in Genesis. What a story!
