We Need:

Large and small tarps, tents of any size. There are mostly large families, but any size tent is needed. T-shirts of all sizes, blankets, and sheets. Toiletries, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, washcloths, towels. I don’t know if anyone has access to MRE’s (meals ready to eat), but this would be great.

For Babies:

Diapers of any size, powdered milk. (We will buy water wherever we can en route.) Baby cereal, etc.

This disaster won’t go away overnight, but the need is great now.

We “know” that God calls us to Haiti to help the poor in any way we can.

Now, we ask you to pray for us as never before, for protection and wisdom. We have “put our hands to the plow,” as many other missionaries have done. Please remember us and all the other missionaries here in Haiti, and above all, remember the poor.

She looks young but actually, she is 17. She braided her hair for church so you cannot tell that she has “lots of hair!” This quiet, shy, young lady is now 17 and will be in her “11th” year of school here in Haiti. Daniella is one of those children that “you never know she is there.” She is usually working, studying, volunteering for something, or in the kitchen. She is doing well. The “love of her life” is her twin brother, Daniel. He had many health problems when he was born so he started school after a few years. He also has an “eye disease,” so Daniella always wants to study “diseases of the eye,” and how to treat them.

Daniella loves dancing, singing, and going to church! She will do well in whatever she makes her mind to do. We tell her, “follow your heart.” We all love Daniella.

Here in Haiti, at Love A Child, all the kids have a nickname. We call Job, “yon pye kokoye!” (A coconut tree!) That kid is growing so tall, and I can’t keep him in clothes! Job’s father, a farmer, had anxiously awaited the birth of his child, but his mother, Mdm Viergielie, had complications when giving birth in a mud hut. It was not sanitary, and as a result, she died with the “childbirth fever.”

This is why Haiti has so many orphans. In Haiti, when a mother dies, the child is automatically considered an orphan because without the mother, the child will die, and the father cannot provide the milk and nutrition the baby needs. So his father brought Job to our orphanage.

Job has always been a good child, never fussy, never talks back, sweet disposition. He is an excellent student but has not made up his mind about his career. My main problem with Job is his growth!!! He is growing like a coconut tree. Last summer, he was a 28/30 in pants, but he might have grown another half inch! Ha!

I can’t keep him in clothes. The shirt he has on is from one of his older brothers!  We will see what path in life Job takes. Whatever he decides, he will have favor on his life!!! He is just a sweetie, and we love Job!

Yesterday and today, our teens, along with Lauren (Bryan’s daughter), have been working hard in our warehouse. They are helping to get items prepared for “Disaster Relief.” We are thankful to those of you who have sent in blankets, sheets, children’s handmade clothes, etc. because there is a great need now.

We also have medications that we saved for Disaster Relief from MAP International, which is a huge blessing!  Bobby and I were scheduled to fly to south Haiti via a small plane this morning, but the weather was bad. So we will try again tomorrow. This trip will be important because it will let us meet the right people and missionaries to make things flow easier for distribution.

I just saw the video of the people in south Haiti, in the pouring rain, cold, wet, hungry, and with no hope. The women were crying so loud. These people all need tents! I pray that we get them as many as needed. That video was so sad, and it brought me back to the. “2010 earthquake.”

It’s so sad.

“Our Guide till Death”

Since living here in Haiti for over 30 years, we have been through a lot of experiences, most of them taking place in the mountains. The mountains of Haiti are beautiful from a distance, but actually, they are mostly sparse because of the Haitians cutting down trees since the 1950s. Once, when we were in the mountains of Savaan Pit, dark storm clouds began to gather. We had a team with us and when we finished the Mobile Medical Clinic, Mr. Occius (the papa of the village) began to tell us to “hurry up, because rain is coming.” We didn’t even see any rain coming and we kind of “dwindled.” Then, the really dark clouds appeared suddenly, and it was getting dark. Mr. Occius led us all out by foot, under the dark clouds. We did not know where we were going, but this older Haitian man knew what he was doing. We came to the gorge between the two mountains and all of a sudden, a rushing river of water came right down like a mighty force. We had to forge that river! Someone got a rope from one side to the other and tied it to some trees, and we hung on to the rope through the rushing river current! There was Mr. Occius, as calm as ever, leading us out to safety.

David, the psalmist said, “For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.” Psalm 48:14

Our Lord God is the best guide we could ever have, and He will be our guide unto death! That’s good enough for us! Have a wonderful day! Sherry

Peace in the storm:

“And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder’s part of the ship, asleep on a pillow; and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was great calm.” Mark 4:37-39

Today a tropical storm or hurricane is supposed to hit Haiti. We all have storms in our life at different times. You may be in the middle of a storm in your life right now. Today, Lord, we speak peace in the middle of the storm. Amen!
