Zachary… He’s a Church-Going Young Man

Zachary is our youngest!! He is the one “whose Voodoo mother,” was going to kill him when he was a baby! But. God rescued him just in time! He loves to dress up for church but he “does not” want to wear a “Graduation Cap,” and march up the aisle for the Kindergarten Graduation! He loves to go to church and sing “off-key,” but he “doesn’t want anything to do with Haitian Kindergarten Graduation! Ha!

Zachary loves church and he doesn’t mind wearing his best “duds,” but just don’t try to get him in another Kindergarten Graduation! I told him he doesn’t have to worry about graduation for at least 13 years! (Haiti has 13 years before graduating.) He should be ok by then!! Ha!

A WORD FOR TODAY:

“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8

Please pray for our Fond Parisien and Ganthier area. The people are very afraid. I’m hearing we are now blocked at both ends. Trusting in the Lord. Psalms 91.  Praying for you and your needs.

Word from the Mission Field

“His Right Hand, and His Holy Arm, Hath Gotten Him the Victory.” Psalm 98:1

Our God is a Mighty Warrior! All through the Bible are scriptures about our God and the fact that He is not afraid! He is our Mighty Warrior! We are here in Haiti not far from dangerous gangs. The Haitian police and others had a big gunfight killing many gang members. But, they will be back!

We are here on the frontlines of a battle physically and spiritually! These are gangs steeped “deep in Voodoo!” And, physically they have a great amount of weapons! You could say that we are outgunned (because we have none) and that there are “more of them, than us.” But, we believe in His Army of angels and that “God’s right arm will give us the victory! Remember us in your prayers.

Haiti Update

We are on a roller coaster ride!

I’m writing this at 7:35 p.m. from Love A Child in Fond Parisien, Haiti. The latest, as of five minutes ago, the “400 Mawozo Gang” is still roaming the streets of Ganthier causing havoc. They are still shooting at the police officers! They returned, robbing houses, and stealing everything. The police have moved into the customs building (the part not burned out), which is on the outside of town. The Kenyans left yesterday, only leaving a small group of police and military.

The Kenyans do not have what they need to fight the gangs. The new police commissioner who had to move into the burnt-out customs building, does not have what he needs… diesel or even cots for his men to sleep on! He is short on so many things. It’s unbelievable! Where is all the money that President Biden sent? The 2 p.m. meeting today in town was grim. About 10 people came by our orphanage to speak to me. (More on Monday.)

We are making big plans on how to help everyone in Ganthier. 2,000 families are hungry… many with no home. I will share something with you on Monday. Together, we can make a difference! Love is something you do.

Yolanda… She Does Everything with Excellence!

Yolanda is growing up and taking on more responsibility! She was born in the high mountains of Covant. This is a nickname for this faraway mountain area. Her mother died shortly after childbirth. Her father, Jean Estima, was unable to care for her and her other six siblings. We agreed to take in Yolanda and her cousin. She had never known any home except our orphanage.

Yolanda is trustworthy. She works in the morning in our lab and earns a little money to save for her college. She is now 16 and in 12th grade. She wants to be a doctor! She will make a good one, because she does everything with excellence!

Important Update

The Lord is our defense!

Important update:

The police, Kenyans, and military have control of Ganthier, just 8 miles from us since early Friday morning. They saved all of us just in time! Warning! The people of Fond Parisien, where we are, “do not take any prisoners!” The police, Kenyans, and military are doing a good job, trying to protect the civilians. Ganthier smells very bad, so many dead bodies everywhere.

Our “Love A Child firetruck” made about 5 trips yesterday to Ganther, to wash out with the big spray hoses, the customs building that the police will be moving into. Our firetruck has also been bringing water for the people to drink. God bless our brave Miracle Village firefighters!

Thank you, Pastor Randy, Life Church in Pennsylvania, for purchasing the two fire trucks! I knew they would be used to put out fires in Miracle Village and Fond Parisien… never dreamed they would be doing this in a war zone!

I’ve been hearing “fake news” here in Haiti that the gangs have killed many people at Love A Child. This is not true. We have not been attacked and Fond Parisien is well. PTL!

Today at 2 p.m. the former mayor (who has been gone for two years), wants to meet with us to help the Ganthier people with food. The fighting is still happening right now! Please pray for everyone. We pray for the gangs who do not know Jesus. Sin will destroy you.

Word from the Mission Field

The calling of God:

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8

Is the Lord calling you today into His work?
Is the Lord calling you to a faraway mission field?
Is the Lord calling you to be a missionary in Haiti?
Are you willing to sacrifice and leave all to follow Christ where He may lead you?
Are you willing to die on the mission field for the Lord?

Not my will, but Lord Your will be done. It’s not easy, but the reward is far more than I can put into words this morning.

Here am I Lord, send me…

Ada, Very Responsible!

Ada (Jessica)… Her name is Jessica but her siblings call her Ada! She is now 17 and will be in high school. She and her siblings really have a story of “God’s Provision!” One day, we will share that story. She loves cooking, singing, and doing Praise Dances. Her siblings say, “She is super sweet, but don’t touch her stuff!!” Ha! The kids all have “nicknames” for each other and hers is “Gwo Tet,” or “big head!” All the kids have nicknames but they don’t consider this rude, just funny. But look at the responsibility the doctor at our Birthing Center has given her… they trust her with the pregnant moms to do a good job!!

The Lord spoke to Bobby years ago and said, “When you build the orphanage, build it beautiful! You will be raising thoroughbreds!” God bless our wonderful partners for your support of our orphanage children.

“A time to sow, and a time to harvest…” – Ecclesiastes 3:2

This is the time of year all of us gardeners enjoy so much… the time to harvest.  Wilner and the Agricultural Training Center (ATC) staff are having big harvests about every other day now.  Here are pictures of a recent harvest from the large Verger garden that supplies the Children’s Home as well as the other kitchens at Love A Child Village. Just as the Bible says, “we will reap what we sow,” our staff of sustainable gardeners know they will have a great harvest from the seeds they have sown into their prepared ground. We thank Dave Balsbaugh of Hope Seeds International for supplying the appropriate seeds throughout Haiti, and we also thank Joe Perkins and Ron Lusk of Sustainable Food Production for getting us started with the indispensable shade houses they erected at the Agricultural Training Center and also at Love A Child Village. Thousands of Haitians are benefiting from these sustainable gifts toward development for sustainability.
