Strong Lionel!

Lionel… What would make a father angry enough at his young son, that the father held his son’s hand down in boiling water?? Years ago, when Lionel was about seven we received a call from our Haitian attorney regarding a small boy who was found on the streets, with a badly burned hand. The child said that his father was angry at him and held his hand in boiling water. There were no “burn specialists” in Haiti to deal with this, so for many years his fingers “were burned together.” But about two years ago, we found a specialist in the Dominican Republic who thought he could perform surgery and separate the fingers. After much care, Lionel was able to use his fingers and bend them! God is so good! Lionel is 17, and wants to be a mechanic!! He is in 8th grade and is a good worker, kind, and respectful!

We give all the Glory to God!!

Old Letant Church is Growing!

The church at Old Letant is growing! Years ago, we began working in this “mud hut village!” It was tough because the majority of the people were in Voodoo!! Everything began to change when God saved the chief “witch doctor!” When he died after some years, another pastor took over, but the church barely grew. But one of our workers here at Love A Child, “Brunel” felt led to go there and continue with church services. The church began to grow and just recently, Brunel was chosen by our head pastor to be anointed as “Pastor Brunel.” The church has grown so fast and many people have been saved, and “baptized in our fish tanks!” The church is constantly growing!  We give all the praise to the Lord! Special thanks to our friend, David George, who raised the funds to build the church years ago! Look what God has done in this “village of mud huts!!” Thank you, partners.

Word from the Mission Field

It’s time to “stretch out the stakes…”

God never wants His children to remain “small.” I do not mean that they can’t be humble… We all need to be humble. But God wants the best for us. Bobby and I have been around so many people with “small thinking,” and they act as though the “blessings of God” are a sin!

Isaiah 54:2-3 says, “Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left…”

Sometimes, we are “afraid” to take that new step, that new job, become engaged, move into a new area, a new neighborhood, etc. None of us like changes. But God is a big God. He wants us to think big, so that He can give “big miracles” in our life! Today, this verse is for someone who is in the “valley of decision.” You are afraid to make that decision but go ahead and do it!!! And praise God all the way through!!! Have a blessed day!

Feeding the Families in the Village of La Roche

Our “four-wheel-drive” trucks and our cruiser grunted up the mountain and across the rocky riverbed and then through a dirt road, to arrive at La Roche, Haiti! One of our food trucks, named “George” climbed that mountain, “like a pro!!” Already standing in line, singing, were 300 mothers, who came from the mountains to receive their precious cargo, a 40-pound box of Feed My Starving Children food!! These boxes of food contained a total of 64,000 meals, that “you,” our partners sponsored!! They were singing and rejoicing because now, they could feed their children! You, our partners, made this happen with your prayers and support! And, immediately after the distribution, we met the ladies who were cooking those big, huge cooking pots full of the same delicious Feed My Starving Children food!!! There were several hundred children there, who had not eaten in “several days!”

Because of “your love and support,” you became “an answer to prayer” to all these families with children! Now, the blessings of Psalms 41:1-3 will continue upon your life for “blessing the poor!”

La Roche Food Distribution

We just returned from La Roche, Haiti. We’ll have more pictures this evening with a report. We passed out 64,800 Feed My Starving Children meals. Some children had not eaten in two or three days. We also cooked a hot meal while we were there, and served many children. They were so happy! Thank you for your support and prayers.

“It is Well…”

Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well. 2 Kings 4:26

In 2 Kings 4, the prophet Elisha is praying for a widower, a “Shunamite” woman.  There is a famine in the land and he goes to her house. She “bakes her last cake,” and gives it to the man of God. He prays for God to give her a son, and she has a son. But one day, her son fell sick and died. She sends her servant to get the prophet Elisha and to say nothing but “It is well.” You know the “rest of the story.” The man of God prayed for her son and he lived.

Horatio Spafford was born in 1828. He was a successful attorney and real estate investor, serving the Lord with all his heart. He had a wife, a son, and four beautiful daughters. Spafford was at the height of his success, until he lost everything in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

After this, his favorite four-year-old son died of scarlet fever. Because of this great heartache, he thought a “family vacation would be good for everyone.” He was supposed to go with them, but as he was on board, he received a phone call, which meant that he could not go with them. He sent his wife and children ahead to England, but while on board, a storm hit, and their ship collided with another, and his four daughters were drowned at sea… only his wife survived.

He immediately set sail for England… but when they were passing over the ocean, the captain showed Horacio the very spot where his children died. After this, he had another son, Horatio Goertner, who at the age of four, also died of scarlet fever.

His tragedies and his faithfulness to God in those times still stand because his famous hymn, “It Is Well with My Soul,” lives on. We must remember that “hard times will come.” Disappointments and even tragedies may enter our lives, and then the test will be… Can we say, “It is Well, With My Soul”? Yes, we can.

Florence Needs Our Prayers

As many of you may know, Florence is still in Italy finishing up her last years of “staj,” or in-house training. She is nearly finished and will be able to find a job as a “Radiology Tech.” But while she was “on her job” in Italy, she developed excruciating pain in her stomach. The doctor told her she needed to have an echography to see if she had an “umbilical hernia.” She is having pain, and we ask your prayers for Florence.

Florence has always been fun, full of life, and always laughing. We took her and her three siblings in when their mother died. Florence is very intelligent, sweet, and funny, but takes her job seriously. When her “hands-on” work is finished this summer, she wants to go to Canada or the United States to get a job. We love Florence and covet your prayers for her complete healing.

God bless you,
Sherry

“Headed Home…”

Jackson and the medical team are headed to Haiti. The doctors gave the “all clear” to go home late last night.

Jackson had a full week in Santo Domingo. He saw several doctors and had tests to make sure everything is working well with the dialysis. Because of a low blood count, he needed a blood transfusion, but all went well. He is smiling and happy to be returning to Haiti to see his brothers and sisters.

Please continue to pray for Jackson. We need his blood pressure to stabilize. We are also praying for a miracle. He needs a kidney transplant. His blood type is O-positive.

Word from the Mission Field

“Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever. Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can shew all His praise?” Psalm 106:1-2

Can you praise the Lord when you are in the valley? Can you praise the Lord when you may be in the biggest trial of your life? “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1

Our praises to the Lord will bring us through!! This morning, let’s praise the Lord!!!

Betina…

Betina was abandoned by her parents when there wasn’t enough food for all the children. She was rescued by some Haitian social workers. They took her from her parents and then called us to ask if we would take her. We did!!

Betina loves dolls and drawing. This sweet twelve-year-old would rather be cleaning her room and “playing jokes on people!”

She is in 5th grade and wants to be a nurse!!

Betina is a hard worker and wants to play “jump rope” all the time!!

She’s a sweetie!
