Pistache, our Next Journalist

His real name is Wilner, but when we first brought him home with us, we already had a “Wilner,” so we nicknamed him Pistache, which means “peanut.”

As with Pistache, the majority of our orphan children came to us through Mobile Clinics in the mountains. One day (many years ago), we found a very small boy who resembled a skeleton. I sat him on my knee to talk to him. I asked his dad how old he was and could not believe it when he said, “fifteen!” No, not this little skeleton-like child… he must be much younger than that.

He talked “very mature,” but he was in the body of a small child, due to malnutrition. We brought Pistache home, began to feed him, and get him on his feet. In school, life was difficult because he was as short as the little children but his mind was much older.

Pistache never gave up his dream of becoming a journalist! He is in his first year of college and doing well! We all love this kid so much!! Bobby always teases him and asks if he has a girlfriend? His answer is always the same… “No, Dad, girls take all your money!” Bobby nods and says, “You’re right, Pistache! I know!! I married your mom!” Ha!
