Recently, we set up a new Uzima UZ-2 water filter at our Agricultural Training Center (ATC) as part of our “appropriate technologies” demonstrations. This amazing, economical water filter can take dirty, fetid, unhealthy water and turn it into clean safe water within minutes. When the ATC students and staff get so thirsty working and learning in the hot Haitian sun, they have a hard time finding good, safe clean water to drink. Haitians will often buy “sache dlo” (plastic sacks of water) to drink, then they liter the country with the emptied plastic bags. It is a very bad situation for Haiti. But now, with the Uzima filter, we can provide safe drinking water for workers, students, and visitors, with no fear of becoming sick and NO LITER. Here you see the filter being set up in the ATC bunkhouse, dirty water going in the top, and then safe clean drinking water is produced within a few minutes.
