Pumpkin Soup!

New Year’s in Haiti… Pumpkin Soup!!!

On New Year’s Day in Haiti, it is a big celebration! It is usually just as big, if not bigger, than Christmas. Many Haitians cannot afford Christmas gifts, but everyone saves their money to have Soup Joumou, or Pumpkin Soup!

It is a day when lots of our older girls get into our kitchen and start helping with this great soup! Sometimes, they put some meat into it, but it is a spicy soup and so delicious! It dates way back to the times of slavery and all Haitians love and “must-have” this soup for New Year’s! This is Rebecca and some of our younger children!!!

We love the Haitian people and children! They are not complex in their ways and love simple things. For our Haitian Love A Child kids, they loved the Christmas lights glowing, Christmas songs, and New Year’s Day! This is a day when everyone hugs everyone else and wishes them a wonderful New Year! They pronounce blessings upon you, and you get “lots of hugs and kisses!!”

To all of you from all of us, we wish you the very best year in 2022! Thank you for all you have done for the poor, and all the Haitian people and children!

Love, Bobby, Sherry, and kids
