“Rocks for Food!”

Tomorrow, we will be going up in the mountains and then way down into the riverbed, to a little village called “Blanket.” As many of you know, Haiti is in a Food Crisis, as never before. When the gangs kidnap, block the roads, kill, and steal, it is much more difficult for mothers to find work to support their families… and sadly enough, many of these women and children have been abandoned by their husbands and fathers.

In order to continue to feed their children, the women and many children sit in the dry riverbed all day and crush rocks by hand. Some ladies find a little hammer or “malto” (or make one) and they sit in the heat of the sun “all day long crushing rocks!” We will be going there tomorrow for a feeding program and distributing food to 200 families. What a blessing! We wish to thank all our partners for this wonderful gift of food to share with the poorest of the poor!

PS: In these pictures, you can see the women and teenage children wearing gloves. I had given a pallet of gloves to Pastor Souffrance, the Pastor of the Church in Peyi Pouri. I can see the same brown and black gloves being used by the mothers and children to crush rocks! These gloves came from World Vision! So, a special thanks to World Vision for all the gloves!!! They have gone “into the regions beyond,” and are being put to good use for the poor! Thank you!
