School’s in Session!

School’s in Session!

Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a [person] in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Our Agricultural Training Center’s mission is to train people in sustainable gardening methods that will serve them and their families through the ages for generations to come. Aside from our own continual demonstration gardens and community projects, Wilner has developed two actual training courses with classroom and practical experience to teach sustainable gardening. We have a two-year, in-depth course that meets for classes on Thursdays and Fridays. On July 3rd, we started our next two-year class with 11 students from the local area. Unlike our popular three-week training course, where students come from all around Haiti for an intensive, residential three-week course, our two-year course is a “day program,” primarily for the local people who can come to our Agricultural Training Center (ATC) behind the houses and gardens of Miracle Village in Fond Parisien. They will study and work to learn sustainable gardening “from the ground up,” literally, because they start by learning about soil (agronomy): structure, biology and health. They have a textbook to follow for classroom work and then get practical experience in our gardens and nurseries the following day. Here are pictures of our eager new two-year students as they meet with “professor” Wilner in out ATC classroom. We will keep you posted about their work and progress. We give a huge “Thank You” to all our donors who support our “sustainability outreaches” where we help to teach Haitians how to help themselves, providing “food for life,” sustainably.
